GSDM AAWD Chapter Volunteers at Jimmy Fund Walk

On Sunday, September 24, 2017, 24 members of the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) community volunteered at the annual Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. Since 1989, the Jimmy Fund Walk has raised more than $125 million for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. This year, more than 9,300 walkers, 1,000 volunteers, 640 Dana Farber employees, and 49 sponsors made this year’s event another great success.

IMG_8779The GSDM team volunteered at The Finish Line at Copley Square near Boylston and Dartmouth Streets. The GSDM group was made up of members of the American Association of Women Dentists (AAWD), as well as members of the Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS), Women in Dentistry, and Miles and Smiles. The group volunteers in the food and water tent, handing out nourishment to the walkers who completed the historic 26.2 mile route.

Two faculty members from GSDM, Dr. Pelly Chang and Dr. Janis Moriarty, were two of the biggest fund raiser for the MDS Miles and Smiles Team.
