Student Spotlight: GSDM Student Appointed to American Student Dental Association National Leadership Position

GSDM student Max Prince DMD 25 was appointed to a national leadership position with the American Student Dental Association (ASDA) for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Prince will serve as an associate on the Council on Membership, a role in which he hopes to bring the best of Boston University’s chapter to other chapters.
“ASDA’s been a really great community for me, and I wanted other students from other schools to have that from their chapter,” Prince said. “BU has a robust chapter, and I wanted to share that with other chapters around the country while also learning from them to bring back to BU.”
According to Prince, the Council on Membership will be overseeing virtual events for chapter leaders to learn more about different programming offered by ASDA. The Council will also be presenting different awards, including the Gold Crown Award, which is presented to the chapter or chapters deemed to have made the best video recapping their year
ASDA Immediate Past President Shafa Nathani said Prince was selected from a competitive field of extremely qualified ASDA national leadership applications during the January 2024 meeting of the ASDA Board of Trustees. Nathani said Prince’s goals around new programming and community participation will help further ASDA’s ongoing mission of enhancing the wellbeing of United States-based dental students.
“The 2023-24 Board of Trustees was impressed by Max’s desire to increase membership engagement based on his chapter experience at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine,” Nathani said. “We look forward to having Max play an important role in achieving the association’s goals for the coming year.”
Prince has been an active member of ASDA since his first year at GSDM. Prince and fellow ASDA member Michael Barbato DMD 25 represented GSDM during the 13th Annual ASDA District 1 Student Debate in 2022, winning first place. He subsequently became GSDM’S ASDA pre-dental vice chair and chapter treasurer. As he enters his final year at GSDM, Prince said he is eager to continue his work with ASDA, now on a national level.
“I want dental students around the country feel supported [by] the chapters,” Prince said. “Hopefully in my new position, I can help bring new programming ideas and events to them.”
