Dr. Siddharth Vora Places First in BUSM Student Research Competition

Dr. Siddharth Vora ORAL BIO 08 won first place in the Oral Biology Ph.D. Program category at Boston University School of Medicine’s (BUSM) 13th annual Henry I. Russek Student Achievement Day
May 11.

The event honors student researchers in Ph.D. programs administered by BUSM. BUSDM offers its Ph.D. program in oral biology in collaboration with the School of Medicine.

Vora’s prize-winning research, "A Role for the Lysyl Oxidase Propeptide in Regulating Osteoblast Proliferation and Differentiation,” focuses on a molecule that may be an important regulator in bone formation. He hopes his work will contribute to the development of new therapeutic strategies to treat cancer and bone diseases such as osteoporosis and diabetic osteopenia.

Vora is a Ph.D. candidate in the laboratory of Dr. Philip Trackman, BUSDM professor of periodontology and oral biology. Dr. Trackman’s team investigates the mechanisms of the lysyl oxidase propeptide as a tumor suppressor and regulator of bone formation.

Vora’s research won him the SDM Dean’s Award at BU’s Science and Engineering Research Symposium April 2.
