Academics

The Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine is dedicated to educating leaders in dentistry. Our rigorous programs give you a firm theoretical foundation and experience with current best practices, taking you to the top of your field.

As part of our dedication to outstanding patient care, we maintain high standards for your clinical experience. You’ll care for patients directly while benefiting from close faculty supervision and feedback.

We are committed to shaping our profession through scholarship, new knowledge, innovative technologies and educational methodologies, critical thinking, and lifelong learning.

The DMD

We offer a traditional four-year Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) program. Internationally-trained dentists interested in practicing in the U.S. can apply to our two-year Advanced Standing program.

A comprehensive clinical care model guides teaching and learning in the DMD program. Service learning and chair-side assistance give you early exposure to patient-centered activities while you build your scientific knowledge through coursework. Preclinical simulations and experience with new laboratory techniques help you develop skills for state-of-the-art care.

Graduate Study

We offer certificates of advanced graduate study (CAGS) in every recognized dental specialty. CAGS programs range in length from 12 months to four years depending on the specialty.

If research or advanced teaching interests you most, you can earn a Master of Science in Dentistry (MSD) in the same area of study as your CAGS (with the exception of general dentistry). In the MSD program, you’ll focus, analyze, and organize complex data and contribute to the literature in your specialization through a major research project and thesis.

For those who want advanced research expertise to assume leadership posts in education, research, or health policy, we offer a Doctor of Science in Dentistry (DScD), a Doctor of Science in Oral Biology (DSc),  and a Doctor of Philosophy in Oral Biology (PhD). As a doctoral student, you’ll be part of the team in your advisor’s research lab. You’ll learn experimental approaches, new techniques, and better research strategies while making innovations in your field.
