For more than a decade, Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine has partnered with the legendary Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum to provide its first-year Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) and Doctor of Dental Medicine Advanced Standing (DMD AS) students an immersive museum tour to challenge their observational and critical thinking skills.

The 2024 Boston University Medical Campus Anatomy Donor Memorial Service, “Garden of Gratitude,” took place on Friday, May 3, in Hiebert Lounge. This was the first BUMC anatomy donor memorial service since 2019. For Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine and Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine students, body dissection is a critical part of their anatomy education, making the memorial service an emotional rite of passage.

Dentistry Across Continents: GSDM DMD Students Expand Cultural and Clinical Knowledge during 2023 International Externship Exchange Program Trips

The GSDM International Externship Exchange Program offers fourth year DMD students an opportunity to travel and learn directly from partnering dental schools. While each exchange program trip is different, all participating students gain global perspectives on healthcare systems and patient needs from clinical seminars and observing/assisting in clinical procedures. From winning second place in student poster competition to being elected to officer appointments for various ADEA committees, sections, and special interest groups, the GSDM community was active during the 2024 American Dental Education Association Annual (ADEA) Session and Exhibition, held from March 9-12 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

GSDM Student-Driven Project Targets Educating Underrepresented High School Students about Various Dental Professions

Dr. Michelle Henshaw SPH 96 DPH 07, GSDM associate dean of global & population health, said high school students from diverse backgrounds need more exposure to various dental career opportunities before they need to plan their educational paths. Since 2020, Henshaw has been working with oral healthcare students to develop an online presentation aimed at high school student populations that are historically underrepresented in the dental profession.

Student Spotlight: Seven GSDM Students Awarded Grand Prize in 2023 American Dental Association Student Ethics Video Contest

A team of GSDM DMD/DMD AS students won the grand prize in the 2023 American Dental Association’s Council on Ethics, Bylaws, and Judicial Affairs’ Student Ethics Video Contest with their video “Undercover Dental Justice” which depicts a high-stakes sting operation that catches an unethical dentist in the act. This was the first grand prize win in this contest in GSDM history.
