Instructor:

Vijay Parashar, BDS, MDS, DDS

Dr. Parashar is a Diplomate of American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology. He received DDS from the University of Detroit Mercy and completed MDSc and Certification in oral & Maxillofacial Radiology in 2006 from the University of Connecticut. He has interpreted over 7,000 cone beam scans and planned over 4,000 dental implants. He is a member of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, American Dental Association, American Dental Education Association, and Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society. He is the Winner of William Rollins and Howard Raper Radiology Awards.

Overview

Interactive Radiology Course with review of CBCT cases. Comprehensive review of normal and variant anatomy of the maxilla and mandible with respect to dental implant treatment planning. Case based learning to demonstrate CBCT applications including Airway evaluation, TMJ, Endodontics, Orthodontics, etc. Review of common pathology seen in maxillofacial area as it influences implant treatment planning and placement. Session 1 (3hrs) is didactic interactive lecture presentation, followed by Session 2 (3hrs hands on).

Session 1: CBCT: Essential Ally for General Dental Practice

  • Applications of CBCT imaging in successful dental practice
  • Recognize advantages of CBCT vs . IntraOral/Panoramic imaging
  • Understand capabilities of various FOVs – advantages and limitations.
  • Imaging for Endo, Implants, TMJ, Airway, Pathology
  • Addressing Radiation Dose questions

Session 2 : CBCT Workshop – Hands-on Interpretation & Implant Planning (Laptop Required)

  • Use of In-office and lab fabricated surgical guides
  • Advantages and limitations of various types of surgical guides
  • CBCT software to explore areas of interest on Anonymized CT scan volumes
  • Guided interpretation of 5 cases – TMJ, Dental Implant, Missed Canal, Airway Evaluation, Bone cancer
