Pediatric Preceptorship

This program is designed specifically for dentists interested in furthering their knowledge of pediatric dentistry. The objective of the program is for participants to become familiar with pediatric clinical skills and didactic education.

The overall philosophy of the Preceptorship is to provide academic and clinical enrichment, specific to pediatric dentistry, to participants. This will be achieved through participation in post-doctoral pediatric didactic courses and observation of pediatric dental care. The knowledge learned during the Preceptorship will provide the information and skills needed for the participants to further their education and continue their lifelong journey of learning.

The program is comprised of didactic seminars and clinical observation. The didactic lectures and seminars follow the schedule of the post-doctoral Pediatric residents. When not in attendance of didactic lectures, participants will partake in clinical observation in the post-doctoral pediatric dental clinic.

• Educational background and previous training in dentistry, demonstrated by a degree in dental medicine from a domestic or foreign institution.
• Commitment to improve pediatric didactic and clinical knowledge.

• This program is full-time, Monday through Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m., for a two (2) month period.
• The program will begin every July with the start of the new academic calendar.
• The program will run one (1) time each calendar year.
• Participants will be allowed 2 sick days.

Pediatric Didactic Lectures
Participants will follow the didactic schedule of the post-doctoral Pediatric residents for four (4) weeks: “Fundamentals of Pediatric Dentistry.”

Patient Care Observation
Participants will spend four (4) weeks observing the post-doctoral pediatric clinic at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine.

The Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine is located on the Boston University Medical Campus in Boston’s South End.

• Have a DDS/DMD degree, or its equivalent, from a domestic or international dental school.
• Submission of a completed application form. Include your curriculum vitae and verified copies of your transcripts from ECE.
• Payment of a non-refundable application fee of $100 U.S. (send in with application).
• Attend a personal interview or phone interview.
• Visas will not be provided for this program.

Additional Requirements upon Acceptance

• Submit immunization records, including TB test results from within 3 months prior to the start of the Preceptorship. Forms must be submitted 6 weeks prior to the start of the program and participants may not start the program until they have been cleared by Occupational Health.
• Completion of ID/ISSO paperwork.
• Completion of HIPAA and Infection Control training.
• Pay a non-refundable deposit of $1,000 U.S. within 14 days of notification of acceptance.
• Full tuition is due 14 days prior to the start of the program.

The tuition for the Pediatric Preceptorship is $7,500 for the two (2) month program. Full tuition is due 14 days prior to the start of the program.

No refunds will be issued after the program has started.

The language of the Pediatric Preceptorship is English. It is expected that participants have an understanding of the English language; no translation services will be provided.

Acceptance into and completion of this Preceptorship does not correlate with admission to any academic program at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine.
