Overview:

Prescribe to Prevent: Overdose Prevention and Naloxone Rescue Kits for Prescribers and Pharmacists is an online educational program for prescribers, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers that will help you prevent overdoses among your patients and their social networks. Through the program you will see videos of patient-pharmacist-prescriber encounters that model how to provide a patient overdose education and a naloxone rescue kit.

The program also includes very brief instructional videos for the available naloxone rescue kit formulations designed for you to use with your patients.

Course Objectives:

By participating in this program, you will learn how to:

  • Explain the epidemiology of overdose
  • Explain the rational for and scope of overdose prevention education and naloxone rescue kit distribution
  • Incorporate overdose prevention education and naloxone rescue kits into medical and pharmacy practice by
    • Educating patients about overdose risk reduction and
    • Furnishing naloxone rescue kits
  • Explain the legal and policy environment regarding furnishing naloxone rescue kits

Post-test and evaluation:

In order to receive credit, participants must view the content of the program and complete the post-test and evaluation. Participants who receive a grade of 70% or greater on the post-test will receive credit.

Continuing education credits issued for participation in the CE activity may not apply toward license renewal in all licensing jurisdictions. It is the responsibility of each participant to verify the CE requirements of his/her licensing or regulatory agency.
