Overview

A deficiency in clinical crown for proper fixed restoration can be caused by various etiologies such as extensive dental caries and sub-gingival tooth fractures. These problems often lead to restorative difficulties which can be better resolved with the aid of the crown lengthening procedures. Crown lengthening procedures may involve osseous resective therapy in addition to surgical management of soft tissue. These hard- and soft-tissue alterations may be provided in order to obtain a ferrule height and establish a biologic width. This workshop aims to provide the participants with a better understanding of the rationale for crown lengthening, the necessary knowledge to correctly diagnose and provide a treatment plan, as well as hands on experience in performing crown lengthening. The workshop is comprised of 3 hours of didactic lecture and 3 hours of hands-on experience with pig jaw specimen, which will allow the participants to practice full and split thickness flap preparation, resective osseous surgery, and suturing.
