John Tannyhill
Clinical Professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery; Director of the Advanced Education Program in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dr. Richard J. Tannyhill is Clinical Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Director of the Advanced Education Program in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at GSDM and Boston Medical Center.
He obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the UCLA School of Dentistry and an MD from Harvard Medical School. He completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery training at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Prior to joining Boston University, Dr. Tannyhill was the residency program director at the Massachusetts General Hospital. His interests include surgical education, trauma surgery, and office-based surgery including complex surgical implantology and ambulatory anesthesia.
Dr. Tannyhill is actively engaged in a number of professional organizations, and has served on numerous committees for various national organizations, including the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Association of Program Directors in Surgery, and the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology.
Dr. Tannyhill has been a team surgeon for the New England Revolution professional soccer team and has held similar positions for a number of other sports teams and associations in the past, including the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, and USA Cycling.
