Halal Options at Boston University

All dining halls on the Charles River Campus offer a wide range of halal-certified food products sourced from trustworthy vendors in the New England area, ensuring that everyone can find something they like.

Halal Options in Dining Halls

Halal options are not confined to specific stations but are available throughout our dining halls. Our pizza stations are always halal, using turkey pepperoni, and the deli stations feature grilled chicken, deli turkey, vegetables, sauces, and condiments that meet halal standards. Students can request halal burgers and grilled chicken at the grill daily, with all grill items prepared in halal-designated pans. Even the cheese we use is halal. Additionally, halal omelets are cooked in dedicated pans, and our round grill at Warren Towers offers halal selections on several days each week. Our chefs are continuously working to incorporate more halal recipes into our menu rotation.

If you’re ever unsure about an item, you can always ask a location manager or look for the Halal symbol next to a food item. The locations that you will find these options daily are:

Halal Choices in Retail Locations

In our retail spaces, you’ll find multiple halal options, such as The Halal Shack at the GSU, which offers a menu inspired by Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cultures, featuring locally sourced halal meat, along with vegan and vegetarian choices. The Coop concept also includes halal chicken on its menu, and our City Convenience Stores offer halal grab-and-go packaged meals for added convenience.

Religious Holiday Support

BU Dining is dedicated to supporting our students during religious holidays with thoughtful menu offerings. During the month of Ramadan, we provide both suhoor (pre-dawn) and iftar (post-evening prayer) meals to our Muslim students for the entire 30-day period.
