ASL Interpreter and Real-Time Captioning (CART) Request Form

We will make every effort to respond to and accommodate requests received. To help us best determine what access is required and who is responsible for payment, please fill out the form below with as much detail as possible.

Deadlines for Requesting Services

Strongly preferred at least 3 weeks in advance, if possible. Requests received outside the recommended timeline below may be difficult to accommodate with preferred services and/or providers. In such cases, we will work with you to devise alternative arrangements, as needed.

Access Statement

An access statement must be posted on your event PR and registration page so that people know how to request accommodations.

An example is:

Boston University strives to be accessible, inclusive and diverse in our facilities, programming and academic offerings. Your experience in this event is important to us. If you have a disability (including but not limited to learning or attention, mental health, concussion, vision, mobility, hearing, physical or other health related), require communication access services for the deaf or hard of hearing, or believe that you require a reasonable accommodation for another reason please contact [insert event organizer name and contact] by [insert date 3 weeks prior to event] to discuss your needs.

What service do you need?*
We offer three different communication access services. Depending on the event and/or communication access requests received from attendees, more than one service may be needed.
- Real-Time Captioning Services (CART): For in-person events, real-time captions can be streamed to a large screen at the event location or someone’s smart phone, laptop or tablet. For virtual events, captions are streamed online.
- American Sign Language Interpreter(s): An American Sign Language interpreter for an in-person or virtual event.
- Captioning of Media: Captions added to your recorded video content that are synced and embedded into your media.
