I have been a member of my Buy Nothing group for a few years now and it's a great resource for gifting things you no longer want, and getting things you need, and meeting people in your neighborhood. You can only belong to one Buy Nothing group at a time, so it's always just people who live near you. It cuts down on waste and helps people meet each other!

Love the buy nothing groups - they are an awesome way to give/get things that you aren't using/need. Check them out!

The group in Jamaica Plain is called Everything Free JP. It's great. It split w/the national Buy Nothing group because the national group used to require groups to split geographically when they got too big, but the JP group wanted to stay together because splitting geographically would reinforce the racism/classism in the ways the neighborhood is divided. I believe the national group has now changed the policy.
