Theme: Building the Inclusive Classroom

The Lightning Talks speaker event is a reflection and learning forum where Boston University faculty and invited guests identify areas of challenge and opportunity and share strategies for engaging educational experiences in the in-person environment. The speaker series, co-hosted by Digital Learning & Innovation and The Center for Teaching & Learning, is open to BU faculty, staff, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars.


Summer 2020 Speaker Series: Inclusive learning environments promote connectivity and growth while creating experiences and spaces for all learners to thrive. The Boston University faculty panel share their diversity, equity and inclusion perspectives for the remote teaching and learning landscape, and offer a variety of inclusive teaching strategies.

About the Moderator: Lorre Wolf, Director

Lorre Wolf is the director of Boston University’s Disability and Access Services department and served as the Building the Inclusive Classroom Lightning Talk moderator. In addition, Wolf presented on the importance of acknowledging disability and access in the remote and hybrid environment. Wolf holds faculty appointments at BU Sargent College and in the School of Medicine, and is trained as a basic and applied developmental neuropsychologist with a focus on invisible cognitive disabilities, college students with autism and creating broad access for inclusive education.

 

About the Closing Remarks: Crystal Williams

Former Vice President and Associate Provost for Community & Inclusion

As Boston University’s inaugural Vice President and Associate Provost for Community & Inclusion, Crystal Williams leads the strategic integration of two pillars of the BU 2030 Strategic Plan—“Community: Big Yet Small” and “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.”

Crystal provides leadership, vision, management, and strategic direction for initiatives that support the development of strong communities of faculty, staff, and students, and that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within BU’s 17 schools and colleges. She works closely and collaboratively with academic and administrative leaders on efforts to build the excellence of BU’s faculty and academic appointees, to nurture a positive campus climate, and to enhance diversity within the academic program.
