Coffee & Conversation March to Madness – No Brackets Allowed!
Just took a look at a special on the Earth’s crazy basketball tournament. Definitely a nation’s obsession. Even President O took a break to make his picks. Could it also be this nation’s shame? Certainly a case for exploitation and once you add the stories, music, and players, your might even have a case for blaxploitation (thought that went out in the ’70s).
Today, during Coffee and Conversation, let’s talk about the two-week American holiday. Why do a set of college boys playing hoops have such a hold on us? Is this the right kind of deal to make for an education? Who gets the coin? Student athletes? Amateur athletics of new jack indentured servitude? Exploitation, for real? Have we just lost our minds – it is about madness, right? Or, maybe I should just relax — after all, it’s just fun and games?
See you in the Howard Thurman Center. This afternoon, from 3-5 p.m. I’ll bring the coffee and cookies, you bring your game. (Leave your brackets at home!)
Peace.
