Coffee and Conversation: Still Trying to Figure Out this Global Climate Change Thing

I haven’t quite figured out this environmental/ climate change thing.

To me it’s too trendy and political. I haven’t been in the conversations – like I should – because I don’t seem to know enough. I’m not a scientist, it appears like elite stuff, and, I’m not sure that I’m can afford it.

Help me! Very few people I know are getting together to check out and discuss the inconvenient truths.

I sometimes wonder if I’ve got to make a choice between real people and trees. Between children and the climate. (I’m just trying to figure this out and figure out what we can do right now.)

Maybe I’m just too urban. It appears folk are asking me to sacrifice the things I love: spaces for coffee shops; congestion; businesses; and franticness. I’m not even sure what the CAFE standards are all about.

The perceived impending crisis isn’t what motivates me. For me it might be more about jobs, asthma, obesity, children, and crime reduction.

Today, during Coffee and Conversation, let’s talk about climate change and the best way to get all of us thinking about it – or not. I’ll see you 3-5 p.m. in the Howard Thurman Center. I’ll bring the coffee and cookies, you bring the conversation. (And, by the way, don’t print this blog post.)

Peace.
