Student Spotlight; Chelsea Cruz, Questrom’16
by Elizabeth Wong, CGS ’18
Meet Chelsea Cruz! Chelsea is a junior in Questrom, majoring in Marketing and Information Systems. Moving from Southern California to Boston, Chelsea’s first thought was that the weather is definitely something to get used to! Ever since her move, she has been working and doing internships in Boston. Contrary to the negative attitude this past winter, Chelsea absolutely loves the MBTA because it allows her to explore all the different parts of Boston in her spare time. She appreciates the diversity of people here; “people are different, it’s really competitive but it’s great and builds you up to be a young professional.”
One of the factors that made Chelsea fall in love with BU as a freshman is the BU Filipino Student Association (BUFSA). She calls the club “my family away from home!” Chelsea values the aspect that the club has a Big-Little program. Chelsea is the Big to Jobelle Manuel (SAR;18) and thinks it’s really special to have that family connection because she doesn’t have siblings. BUFSA hosts family dinners weekly and general meetings every month as well as a showcase in the fall and spring where members perform, dance, and sing to promote the Filipino culture.

Chelsea also is involved in a few more on-campus extracurriculars. She is a member of Spoon University, a food blog that features local restaurants, and do-it-yourself in-dorm recipes. She is also part of Guerrilla Marketing Society which is a club that teaches its members what it’s like to work within a company setting. Members get hands on experiences by consulting with local Boston companies and creating marketing plans.
Fun Fact: In her senior year, Chelsea is studying abroad in Sydney, Australia in an Advertising Marketing and PR internship program and can’t wait!

:) BUFSA _ not only a club but also a “home”. The link between the members are extremely durable. We are friends, we are a family,
