Unobserved COVID-19 Testing
The following message was sent to all students on the CRC on February 2, 2022 by BU’s Healthway
Dear Student,
We are excited to share that the process for unobserved testing will begin for Charles River Campus students on Thursday, February 3rd. Now that classes have been in session for two weeks, we are confident that everyone is performing their tests accurately and they can now be done without observation.
- What: Unobserved testing, or self-collecting your COVID-19 test in a private area and dropping it off at a testing location.
- When: Starting Thursday, February 3rd, students arriving at the 808 Commonwealth Avenue testing site will perform COVID-19 testing using the standard observed method but will also receive an unobserved “kit” (swab and tube in a plastic bag) on the same day. For your next scheduled test, you can collect your test at home, seal the tube in the plastic bag for transport, and then drop it off at the check-in station at the time of your next appointment. On February 10th observed testing will no longer be available at 808 Commonwealth Avenue site as all testing will have transitioned to unobserved.
- Where: The process will be starting at the 808 Commonwealth Avenue collection site. The MED campus collections site will be transitioning to a full unobserved/drop-off site next week. In addition, a new collection site on East Campus at 700 Beacon Street will open for student drop-off on Thursday, February 10th. Appointments will be added on Patient Connect for the new location and hours shortly.
- How: You will still need to schedule an appointment for a drop-off time. You will take your test in a private area the same day as your appointment. For more information, watch the video!
If you are experiencing COVID-19 like symptoms, please self-schedule a symptomatic test at the Health Services Annex. Appointments at the Annex will continue to be observed and will receive highest priority. For non-medical testing questions, please see the Back2BU testing site or email healthwayhelp@bu.edu.
