Before you shamrock and roll this St. Patrick’s Day…

The following message was sent to all students on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 from Dean Campbell-Foster.

There once was a St. Patty’s Day so fine,
Everyone went out for a wicked good time,
They all used their head,
Made it safely to bed,
And woke up the next day, feeling fine!

St. Patrick’s Day is on Friday this week, my friends! The city breaks its long winter hibernation and Boston turns itself green. If you haven’t experienced some of city’s iconic celebrations, this is the weekend to do it. I wish you nothing but safe and healthy frivolity!

Of course, enjoying this holiday safely takes more than pure luck. It takes maturity, awareness, and planning. Keep these tips in mind as you make your plans:

  • Ask your friend group important questions: Where are we going? How will we get there and back? How can we look out for each other?
  • Avoid the dreaded BORG. They are dangerous (and sound disgusting, fwiw).
  • Know your limits. You don’t magically handle alcohol consumption differently because it’s St. Patrick’s Day.
  • Be mindful of your neighbors. Lots of people call this city home. Keep all of us in mind when you spin that vinyl or gather in large groups.
  • Know who to call if you need help. You should always have the Boston University Police Department number in your phone. 617-353-2121. For off-campus emergencies, dial 911.
  • Look out for each other. Speak up when something doesn’t seem right and trust your instincts. Remember, BU has a Good Samaritan Policy.

No matter how you choose to spend your weekend, be sure to kick it off by joining us at the Hockey East Semifinals & Championship on Friday, March 17, at TD Garden to cheer on our Terrier Men’s Hockey!

Celebrate safely and make BU proud, folks!

Take care,

Dean JCF
