It’s about that time…so celebrate (and be on time)

The following message was sent to all seniors on Monday, May 15, 2023, from Dean Campbell-Foster.

Seniors,

What time should you be at Commencement? Yes, it’s 12:15 pm on Sunday, May 21, to line up with your school or college. If you remember one thing from this message, remember that… or this…or this:

(A Commencement pseudo-limerick, by Dean JCF, back by popular demand.)

You don’t want to miss your big day,
Be on time and don’t delay,
You’ll have to sit in the back,
Like a lost member of the pack, not sitting with your class,
Get there at 12:15 pm and hooray!

Commencement is a memory that you will not forget. I remember mine vividly: the proud faces, the sense of achievement, and the emotional goodbyes to people and places that meant the world to me (and still do). As you enjoy time with your classmates before and on the big day, remember all that you have done to get here. Behind every journey is a story, a narrative that is uniquely yours. Never stop telling or celebrating that story.

Many of you enjoyed the first events of Senior Week this past weekend, and I want to continue to invite you to join us this week for more. There is a packed schedule of receptions and convocations leading up to Commencement on Sunday. Be sure to soak up all that you have achieved and spend quality time with your classmates, family, and friends.

Take good care, and please stay in touch.

Dean Jason Campbell-Foster, EdD
Interim Associate Provost & Dean of Students
