The Medieval Singer’s Art: an Introduction to Liturgical Chant and Vernacular and Latin Song, from the 9th-13th Centuries

Course Description:
An introduction to the repertoire and performance practice of various genres of medieval vocal music, taught by two eminent practitioners of the art. The class will be limited to 8 participants, primarily singers, although players may be accomodated depending on their instrument and whether they are also willing to sing. Musicologists and other non-performing auditors welcome.

Registration Information:
The course will be 15 hours of class time. Students, both undergraduate and graduate, can take the course for one credit or no credit, and should enroll as follows:
MU 409 Independent Study (for undergraduates)
MU 890 Independent Study (for graduates)
Locations:
The Saturday and Sunday sessions will occur on the BU Charles River campus, at 808 Commonwealth Avenue, Rooms 123 and 134. The Monday sessions will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Watertown, MA. We will coordinate carpools to Watertown during one of our Sunday sessions.
