Zoe Hughes Promoted to Research Associate Professor!

Congratulations to Zoe Hughes on your well earned promotion to Research Associate Professor!

Zoe Hughes is a coastal oceanographer and geomorphologist. Through numerical modeling and field data collection, she researches the interaction of hydrodynamics and sediment transport along coastlines, especially shorelines that incorporate channelized systems such as salt marshes. Her research is necessarily cross-disciplinary including feedbacks between hydrodynamics, landscape evolution (such as erosion) and ecosystem science. Dr. Hughes’ research interests include the impacts of climate change on the coastal landscape, hydrodynamics and geomorphology of tidal channels/tidal inlets/salt marsh creeks, marsh ecogeomorphology/wetland ecosystems and morphology, and sediment transport and bedform dynamics.

Beyond her research, Zoe has done meaningful work within the department. She is an active member of the Earth & Environment Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and has worked with FieldFutures to create a Field Safety Plan. Zoe has also developed and taught classes, which include Costal Ecosystems, Coastal Sedimentology, and Intro to Oceanography.
