X-Ray Irradiator : MultiRad 350

Environmental Health and Safety’s Radiation Safety maintains an X-Ray Irradiator  available to all Boston University/Boston Medical Center researchers.  The MultiRad 350 X-Ray Irradiator is ideal for dense biological specimens as well as other applications such as cell, tissue, whole-body, and targeted irradiation.

Training

Radiation Safety offers a one-time training on the use of the irradiator that covers the following:

  • General safety practices
  • Touch Screen controls
  • Built in safety features of the Irradiator
  • Programmable Irradiator features
    • Turntable operation
    • Programmable dosimeter
    • Adjustable collimation
    • Ventilation port use
  • User login and password setup

This training is offered to users when they request access to use this unit.  Once training is completed the records of this training are recorded in SciShield and the user is setup with their unique login and password.

Access

As described above, once a user is trained they are provided with unique login credentials providing access to the irradiator without the need to schedule use with radiation safety.

Annual Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Calibration

Radiation Safety is responsible for all PM and calibration performed on this irradiator to ensure availability for researchers.  Planned downtime for repairs, maintenance, or calibration will be communicated to researchers in advance so these activities do not impact researchers use.

If you have any questions regarding this irradiator or would like to gain access please reach out to Radiation Safety Officer.
