Wilson Wong is College’s Newest AIMBE Fellow
Honor for a pioneer in mammalian synthetic biology and immune cell therapy

Professor Wilson Wong (BME) has been inducted into the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) College of Fellows, earning one of the highest professional distinctions accorded to researchers in the field. Now including Wilson, a total of 39 Boston University College of Engineering faculty are AIMBE Fellows.
“I am very honored to be elected as a Fellow by the AIMBE,” says Wong. “It is a recognition of the hard work by past and present trainees that I had the pleasure of working with.”
AIMBE’s mission is to recognize excellence, advance public understanding, and accelerate innovation in medicine and biology. The AIMBE College of Fellows comprises the top two percent of engineers in the medical and biological fields. Membership is for those who have made outstanding contributions to engineering and medicine research, practice, or education, and to those making major advancements in the fields, pioneering new fields of technology, or developing innovative approaches to bioengineering education.
Wong was nominated, reviewed, and elected by his peers “for pioneering contributions to mammalian synthetic biology, immune cell therapy, and leadership in service and outreach for synthetic biology,” according to his citation. He is perhaps best known for his advances in chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell treatments for cancer.
Along with 171 colleagues in the AIMBE College of Fellows Class of 2025, Wong was formally inducted during the AIMBE Annual Event in Arlington, Virginia, on March 31.
