AIMBE received a record number of nominations to the program, and Densmore is joining a group of select and impactful biological and medical engineers. AIMBE Fellows stand for medical and science innovation, and will contribute to the institution’s mission of advocating for and improving these fields.

“ECE senior faculty do a great job helping to promote others in the department,” Densmore wrote in an email. “Selim Ünlü was vital in my nomination and I thank him for getting me into the pipeline.”

Densmore’s research expertise lies in electrical engineering, which he uses to design living systems intended for bio-sensing and bio-remediation applications. Some of Densmore’s research includes fabricating microenvironments to provide controlled devices for testing and deploying living systems, transforming high-level functional descriptions to DNA circuits, and automating liquid handling robots to assemble DNA.

“It is an honor particularly for someone with a PhD in electrical engineering,” Densmore wrote. “Really shows how diverse and interdisciplinary biomedical research has become.”

Densmore is the Lead PI on the NSF Expeditions in Computing’s “Living Computing Project”. He is also an NSF CAREER award recipient, founding member of BU’s Biological Design Center, and former Hariri Institute Faculty Fellow. He is currently a senior member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and IEEE as well as the director of BU’s Design, Automation, Manufacturing, and Prototyping (DAMP) Lab which was used to develop BU’s in-house COVID-19 testing facility.
