Automation, Robotics, and Control

Automation and Control combine rigorous system-theoretic methods with novel machine learning techniques in order to create truly “smart” systems capable of processing unprecedented amounts of information in modern technological environments. Research in SE and the affiliated Center for Information and Systems Engineering (CISE) both encompass the following:

  • atomic force microscopy
  • bio-inspired control
  • cyber-physical systems
  • formal methods for robot mission planning and control
  • discrete-event and hybrid systems
  • cybersecurity, image-guided surgery
  • networked control systems
  • cooperative autonomous vehicles
  • UAV flight control
