Maxime Sabet D’Acre, Economics to Engineering

“The product design classes at BU focus around user experience, the processes behind building a product, and the elements that make a product. This technical background is a key enabler to my career in product design and  management.”  –  Maxime Sabet D’Acre

Maxime Sabet D’Acre earned his bachelor’s degree in economics and music, but was always interested in physics and math. He became inspired to build his own 3D printer after watching a TED talk on 3D printing. Maxime began attending conferences around Europe and realized he would need a technical education to work in high tech. In his search to earn a masters in engineering, Maxime found BU’s LEAP (Late Entry Accelerated Program). Once on the BU campus, Maxime found his calling in product design and project management.

During his time in LEAP, Maxime was selected for an internship at Dassault Systemes, a company that regularly provides opportunities for LEAP students. Maxime worked on the product definition team at SolidWorks, a subcompany of Dassault and one of the largest 3D modeling software companies in the world. He honed skills in multi-CAD, injection molding, and coding.

“SolidWorks allows you to simulate the injection molding process and ensure your parts are manufacturable which ultimately saves your company hundreds of thousands of dollars,” said Maxime. “I was learning what the limitations of modeling were, as well as how to use the SolidWorks software to make sustainable decisions.”

While 3D printing and product design are Maxime’s main focus, he is co-founder of Jobgenic, a startup company that helps people find the jobs they love.

To prospective LEAP students, Maxime has one piece of advice –  take advantage of BU’s resources.

“BU has a lot to offer,” said Maxime. “The LEAP community is really great. It’s nice to have so many people in the same boat as you.”
