Course Sequencing Tool
The Course Sequencing Tool (CST) tool is designed to help students customize and visualize their path through the requirements of the ENG degree programs. Students can chart their progress semester by semester, and plan for future semesters. They will be able to explore alternative course sequencing plans, and keep track of the Hub units they earn through the Hub Electives they choose. Students can also use the tool to help plan and track progress on minors, concentrations and/or other special programs.
As an advisor, you will be able to access and view and approve your advisees’ plans through the Advisor Portal of the CST, which will help facilitate more constructive advising discussions with your advisees. You will have access to edit and save these plans.
Access the CST Advisor Portal.
When you enter the Advisor View of the CST, click on the “Student List” tab to see the names of your advisees on the right side of the screen. Selecting a student will reveal their Operative Plan (the one they should keep updated) as well as other drafts they may have created. Clicking on a plan name makes the plan visible. All courses required for the degree will be shown on the right or at the bottom of the screen, arranged in the “Degree Requirements” pool. The student’s course sequencing plans will be on the left side or the top of the screen. Courses are moved to the plan from the “Degree Requirements” pool by pointing and clicking, and will appear grayed out once they are no longer available in the pool.
During preregistration advising each semester, you should review the student’s Operative Plan with them. If you approve, click on the blue “approve” icon to indicate this (note that the “Student List” must be open to see the blue icon). You will be prompted to confirm your approval. If you do not approve, have the student revise their plan as needed prior to approval. After confirming your approval, the blue icon will disappear until the next pre-reg period and the student will receive an email with a link to the Advisor Assessment form; the Advising Authorization Code is sent to students once they have submitted the Advisor Assessment form, and will be used to register online. Note that the CST has no connections to the Link or to WebReg. Students will still need to use the Planner and Webreg to register for their courses as usual.
Over time, students will move all courses in the “Degree Requirements” section to the semester by semester rows corresponding to when they took them or plan on completing them. Students can do this semester by semester as they proceed through the curriculum. They can also plan a semester or two ahead and save different draft plans as they consider various course sequencing options with you.
Courses that the student has successfully completed will be locked in place after each semester by the Records Office.
