3D Scanner

3D Scanner
EPIC has a 3D scanning system that is available to the BU community on a first-come, first-serve basis for on-site use only. The Peel 3 is a handheld white light 3D scanner capable of capturing and rendering mesh (STL) geometry in-color at a resolution of 0.25mm-0.1mm.

3D scanning applications cover broad spectrum of topics, such as:

  • Reverse engineering antique technology
  • Rendering anatomical models for bio-medical engineering
  • Creating digital reproductions of artifacts
  • Part inspection and metrology

The scanning system includes a dedicated computer along with easy-to-learn acquisition software. Users also have access to the more advanced VXelements software suite, which includes an array of mesh editing, mesh-to-CAD, and metrology tools.

All users must pass the 3D Scanner Safety and Use quiz, and must check out the scanning system with front desk staff prior to use. Students seeking to consult on a project that may require 3D scanning may book an appointment with an EPIC Lab Supervisor.
