Educational Resource Center
The Educational Resource Center (ERC) offers support as you navigate BU’s rigorous academic environment.
The ERC focuses on four main areas of skill building:
Academic Skills Advising
You can meet individually with an academic counselor, or you can attend one of the ERC’s helpful workshops on topics ranging from note taking to managing test anxiety.
ERC staff are experienced in working with students on individualized study plans, time management, and test-taking strategies. You can book a 30-minute appointment for some individualized attention.
Many students find they need to hone their study skills to succeed at BU—don’t hesitate to take advantage of this great resource.
Peer Tutoring
The ERC offers individual peer tutoring appointments as well as weekly small group tutoring sessions. Peer tutors are BU undergraduates who have excelled in a course and been recommended as a tutor by their faculty members.
The ERC Peer Tutoring program offers tutors for 100-200 level courses in a variety of subjects such as Chemistry, Economics, Math, certain languages and more.
Appointments book up quickly, so schedule in advance!
Writing Assistance
ERC Writing Fellows are graduate students skilled in academic writing. They meet with students both for twenty-minute drop-in appointments to address targeted concerns and for longer, scheduled appointments for a more holistic review of a writing assignment.
English Language Conversation Groups
The ERC’s English Conversation Groups offer international students and English Language Learners an opportunity to engage in regular English conversation outside of the classroom environment. These small, informal weekly discussions often become cultural exchanges rather than just conversations. Through these conversation groups, individuals expand their vocabulary and cultural experiences in addition to improving their English pronunciation and listening skills.
