Europe, Religion, Integration – A Lecture
Professor of Social and Political Theory at the European University Institute, Olivier Roy joined us at Boston University on February 3rd, 2017 for a lecture entitled “Europe, Religion, Integration.” Roy has been a Senior Researcher at the French National Centre for Scientific Research since 1985, and a professor at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales since 2003. In addition, he has held positions such as Consultant for the UN Office of the Coordinator for Afghanistan in 1988. From 1993 to 1994, Roy also led the OSCE’s Mission for Tajikistan. Accompanying all these great accomplishments, Roy has also authored books including Globalized Islam (Chicago University Press, 2004), Holy Ignorance (Oxford University Press, 2010), and “En Quête de l’Orient perdu” (Seuil, 2014).
Working as respondent during this talk, Jessica Stern is a Research Professor at the Pardee School of Global Studies. She coauthored ISIS: The State of Terror along with J.M. Berger. Stern’s other written works include Denial: A Memoir of Terror, Terror in the Name of God: Why Religious Militants Kill, The Ultimate Terrorists, and numerous articles on terrorism.
