Event Highlights: A Green & Global Europe

This lecture by Dr. Nathalie Tocci, Director of the Istituto Affari Internazionali and Honorary Professor at the University of Tübingen, marks the first in a series of lectures hosted by the Jean Monnet Chair in European Security and Defense on the theme of “Europe in the World.” Tocci addresses the Russian invasion of Ukraine and its implications on Europe (politically, militarily, economically, and also in terms of migration). She then zooms in on energy, which is a main dimension of the war. Finally, she loop back to her book project – A Green and Global Europe – and how to reconcile the urgency of energy security with the EU’s strategic goal of decarbonization.

Nathalie Tocci has been Special Advisor to EU High Representative and Vice President of the Commission Josep Borrell. As Special Advisor to HRVP Federica Mogherini, she wrote the European Global Strategy and worked on its implementation. She has been a member of Eni’s Board of Directors since May 2020. Previously she held research positions at the Centre for European Policy Studies, Brussels, the Transatlantic Academy, Washington and the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, Florence.
