Retired Army General David D. McKiernan is the former top commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Afghanistan. He entered the Army in 1972 with an ROTC commission and went on to serve in the US Army for 37 years. His distinguished career includes service in the Gulf War, Korea, Europe and the Balkans, Southwest Asia, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
