Katherine Semrau

Katherine Semrau is the Director of the BetterBirth Program at Ariadne Labs, where she leads efforts to enhance maternal and newborn health by implementing evidence-based, scalable solutions at the frontline of care. She also serves as Deputy Director of Ariadne Labs, overseeing the organization’s three platforms and advancing scientific methodology and rigor. Additionally, Dr. Semrau is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and an Associate Epidemiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in the Division of Global Health Equity. With over 19 years of experience in maternal, newborn, and child health epidemiology, her research focuses on preventing maternal and child mortality, improving quality of care, and addressing mother-to-child transmission of HIV. Dr. Semrau has designed and led interventions in resource-limited settings, including initiatives on facility readiness, patient education, and neonatal care for vulnerable newborns. She holds a PhD in epidemiology from Boston University and an MPH in international health and epidemiology from the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
