What is FAIR Student Loans?
At FAIR Student Loans, we aim to advance equity and inclusivity in higher education by analyzing and promoting state student loan forgiveness programs. We are committed to illuminating the unique challenges and opportunities these programs present, especially for underserved and underrepresented communities. Moreover, we aim to provide an easy-to-navigate loan forgiveness toolkit for current and future borrowers seeking debt relief. We explore the impacts of student loan debt policies and opportunities to relieve debt burdens by combining publicly reported data on students in higher education with our policy data. We gather student loan policy information directly from program promotional materials and link this information to data from sources such as the American Community Survey and the National Center for Education Statistics. We conduct thorough interviews with college students from diverse backgrounds to understand their experiences and interactions with social safety net programs, as well as student loan assistance, repayment, and forgiveness programs. Our focus is to promote accessibility and advocate for fair practices, empowering all students, families, and communities to attain economic independence and professional advancement, and ultimately contribute to a more just and equitable society.Learn more about our mission
