The MS3 office-based Family Practice clerkship at Fitchburg Family Practice is intended to provide the student with a real world experience in a full scope Family Medicine setting. The patient population at FFP is diverse, both ethnically and economically. The major clinical experience is in the office setting, where the student observes and participates in a wide range of patient care. Multiple educational opportunities exist, including attending hospital rounds, noon conferences, making home visits, attending staff meetings, and chart rounds. Students have the opportunity to observe different practice styles, as well as to work collaboratively with residents and clinical staff.

Central Maine Medical Center
(Family Medicine Residency Program)
Central Maine Medical Center Central Maine Medical Center Family Medicine Residency in Lewiston Maine offers a core family medicine clerkship of opportunity and diversity. While rotating through the clinic, students have the opportunity to work directly with both residents and attendings in the outpatient setting. In addition, students have their own schedule of patients for which they are responsible. Since students are here for six weeks, there is often the opportunity for some initial management and follow-up on patient results. We have a procedure clinic through which students rotate. We expect students to do some call on the inpatient service working directly with residents on the admission and care of our hospitalized patients, including pediatrics and maternity care.
As a clinic we serve a diverse population. We not only have the typical family medicine mix of ages, but we also have a large integrated refugee population from Somalia as well as many other countries in Africa and the Far East. For the residents we have an optional Wilderness and International Medicine Program (the WIMPs) that provides added experiences and learning opportunities. Medical students rotating here are welcome to all educational and extra-curricular activities.
We provide housing and food. In addition to the resident didactic time, we have weekly educational meetings with all students on rotations at the hospital with one of the faculty. We hope to see you here!

Middlesex Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program
Stephanie Rosener, MD
During this clerkship the student will be based at one of three office sites- one urban, one suburban, and one semi-rural- which see close to 30,000 patients a year. Offices are modern and well equipped for office surgery, casting, flexible sigmoidoscopy, colposcopy, and cryosurgery. Video observation and taping facilities are available. Patients come from all walks of life and present with a wide variety of problems. Many have been coming to the practices for over two decades. The standard clinical clerkship consists of 70% office, 20% hospital, and 10% prenatal clinic and nursing home. Student responsibilities will include taking a history, conducting an appropriate physical examination, and generating a differential diagnosis and problem-oriented plan. The office preceptor, who is a board-certified family physician and usually a member of the faculty, will serve as a consultant to the student and assist in modifying the plan as necessary. The student will be responsible for communicating the plan to the patient and arranging follow-up. In the hospital the student will be a member of the Family Medicine Service team, which coordinates care for all practice patients who are hospitalized or in the emergency department. On any given day the team cares for laboring women, newborns and postpartum mothers, adult and pediatric inpatients, a variety of emergencies, and provides consultation to patients on surgical and psychiatric services. The student will provide inpatient care under the supervision of the faculty attending, and participate in teaching rounds and coordination of care between the hospital and the office. Student housing is available, however a car is needed to commute back to BU for didactic sessions.
