On April 27, 2017, the Council held the second event in our “New England Innovates” series, which was launched last fall. “New England Innovates: Preparing the Innovation Economy Workforce” explored the critical role of the region’s colleges and universities in developing a talent pipeline to support growth in the innovation economy, and highlighted the importance of partnerships with industry to best prepare students.
Following opening remarks from Andrea Cox of GE Aviation, a panel of NEC members representing colleges and universities throughout the region discussed their initiatives to prepare students for the 21st century workforce and the associated challenges.
The panel included:
- Dr. Gerald J. Fine, Ph.D. – Director, Engineering Product Innovation Center, Boston University
- Daniel Hewet – Executive Director for Research and Partnered Projects, Rhode Island School of Design (RISD)
- Dr. Patricia Maguire Meservey, Ph.D. – President, Salem State University
- Marc Sedam – Associate Vice Provost for Innovation and New Ventures, University of New Hampshire
Over 75 people attended the event, which was hosted by Boston University at their Charles River Campus.
