CSS Profile
File your CSS Profile and allow 3 - 5 business days for it to be received at BU. For BU undergraduate aid use school code 3087. For BU Medical School aid, use school code 3116. CSS will send you an acknowledgement verifying that your application was sent to us. If your Social Security number as listed on your PROFILE matches your Social Security number on record with BU your Profile will be added to your BU financial aid application.
Free Application for Federal Student Aid
The FAFSA is required to apply for any federal financial aid. File your FAFSA online at http://www.bu.edu/finaid/apply/profile-fafsa/. If filed recently, allow 3 – 5 business days for your FAFSA information to be received at Boston University (school code 002130). The FAFSA processor will send you a Student Aid Report (SAR) confirming that they have sent your FAFSA information to BU. If the SAR instructs you to take additional action steps, BU will be unable to process your FAFSA and it will remain incomplete until you have fully complied with all instructions. If your Social Security number as listed on your FAFSA matches your Social Security number on record with Boston University your FAFSA will be added to your BU financial aid application.

Prior Bachelor's Degree
You indicated on your FAFSA that you already received a bachelor’s degree. If that response is incorrect, correct your Student Aid Report (SAR) online at www.fafsa.gov. If you already earned a bachelor’s degree, you are ineligible for federal grants, including Federal Pell and SEOG grants, and Boston University need-based scholarships.

Federal regulations require that all first-time Federal Direct Loan borrowers complete an entrance counseling session prior to the crediting of loan funds to a student's account. Promptly complete this requirement on-line at http://www.bu.edu/finaid/. Loan funds will be cancelled if you delay completion of this requirement. Once cancelled, we cannot guarantee that another Direct Loan could be processed to replace those funds, and you would bear full responsibility for any unpaid charges that revert to your student account. Allow 48 hours for your record to be updated once you have completed this requirement.
Household Member Listing
You have been selected by the Department of Education for federal verification. The Household Member Listing form is required. Complete and submit the form as indicated in the instructions on the form.
Parent Income Tax Non-filer Status Verification
You have been selected by the Department of Education for federal verification and you have indicated that you did not file a 2021 federal income tax return. Provide 2021 parent IRS Verification of Non-filing Letter by requesting an IRS Tax Return Transcript from the IRS.

Dependency Status Verification
Information you reported on the FAFSA suggests that you meet the federal dependency status criteria to be considered for federal aid as an independent student. That information must be verified. Download the Verification of Student Dependency Status form, complete and submit it to BU Financial Assistance.
CSS Profile for Noncustodial Parent
Now that you have submitted the CSS Profile and provided information about yourself and the parent you live with most, you must also have the parent you do not primarily live with provide their information on their Profile. To do so, they create a separate Profile account and login. You can email them a link to the Profile application from your Profile dashboard. Their "noncustodial" parent information will be appended to your CSS Profile after they submit it. If getting a CSS Profile from your other (noncustodial) parent is impossible learn about filing a CSS Profile Waiver Request at http://www.bu.edu/finaid/apply/special-circumstances/parents-not-married/.
Noncustodial Profile Waiver Request
We received your request for a waiver of the requirement that a CSS Profile be provided by the parent you do not live with primarily; your "noncustodial" parent. If your request is approved, this element of your application will not be required. If it is not approved, you will need to arrange for your noncustodial parent to complete their CSS Profile. To do so, they create a separate Profile account and login. You can email them a link to the Profile application from your Profile dashboard.

Letter/Email/Fax
BU Financial Assistance received correspondence from you or your parent(s) regarding your financial aid application. The information included in it will be given full consideration when your application is reviewed.
Veteran's Affairs Match
Submit a copy of your DD214 showing that your separation from the military was under honorable conditions and that the reason for your separation was satisfactory. Also contact the VA to resolve this discrepancy and have the VA records updated to prevent further match problems.
Federal Identity Verification
You have been selected by the Department of Education for federal verification. The Federal Identity Verification and Statement of Educational Purpose is required. Complete and submit the form as indicated in the instructions on the form.
Department of Education Referral Match
Contact the U.S. Department of Education at 800-433-3243 to obtain official documentation that your status has been resolved.
Anti-Drug Abuse Act
On your FAFSA you were asked, “Have you been convicted for the possession or sale of illegal drugs for an offence that occurred while you were receiving federal student aid (such as grants, loans, or work-study)?” If you left this question “blank” you must provide a response as a correction on your Student Aid Report (SAR). If you responded “Yes” refer to your SAR or visit fafsa.gov for specific instructions, or call the federal processor at 800-433-3243. BU cannot proceed with your financial aid application until this is resolved.
Social Security Match
Submit a signed copy of your Social Security card. Submit a copy of your birth certificate if your Student Aid Report indicates a discrepancy with your date of birth. Contact the Social Security Administration office to resolve this discrepancy and have your Social Security records updated to prevent FAFSA/Social Security data match problems in the future.
National Student Loans Data Systems Match
You have reached your annual or aggregate Direct Loan borrowing limit, or you are in default and/or you owe a repayment on a federal fund, or you are nearing your Pell Grant lifetime eligibility cap. Submit official documentation that your loan default or federal funding overpayment status has been cleared. If you have reached your aggregate loan limit, you are not eligible for additional Direct Loan funds. Refer to your Student Aid Report for instructions on who you should contact. If this does not apply to you, contact us.
Selective Service Match
Submit a copy of your Selective Service Registration Acknowledgment. Contact Selective Service online at www.sss.gov, or call 847-688-6888. If you believe that you are exempt from the registration requirement, that you have already registered, or to resolve any other problems regarding your registration status please contact BU Financial Assistance. If you have questions about the requirement that you register to be eligible for financial aid go to: http://www.bu.edu/finaid/eligibility/selective-service/.
Appeal
BU Financial Assistance has received an appeal for reconsideration from you or your parent(s) regarding our decision on your financial aid application. Appeals requests are individually reviewed in the order in which they are received. After careful consideration, a response will be issued.
Massachusetts No Interest Loan Promissory Note
The promissory note for your Massachusetts No Interest Loan must be completed and signed prior to loan funds being credited to your student account. Consortium Agreement
A consortium agreement must be completed and returned to BU Financial Assistance (881 Commonwealth Avenue, 5th Floor, Boston MA 02215) prior to the start of the semester for which you will be enrolled at another institution in a program of study approved for Boston University credit. Download and print a copy of the “Consortium Agreement” form. Complete and submit the form as indicated in the instructions on the form.
Student Account Balance
Our records indicate that you have an outstanding balance on your BU student account. Your balance must be paid in full before you can be considered for financial aid for the upcoming academic year. Upon our review of your financial aid application, processing will be delayed until the balance is paid which may result in a reduction of your award. Exit Counseling
Federal regulations require that an exit counseling session be completed by all Federal Direct Loan borrowers prior to graduation and/or separation from Boston University. Massachusetts No Interest Loan Exit Counseling
You must complete the Massachusetts No Interest Loan Exit Interview requirement prior to leaving Boston University. You will receive information on this requirement at least one month prior to your scheduled graduation date. If you withdrew from Boston University, you are responsible for contacting BU Financial Assistance at finaid@bu.edu or 617-353-2965 to fulfill this requirement.
Financial Aid Award Reply
A Financial Aid Award notification was issued to you, but we have not received your acknowledgment of our offer. You must respond and acknowledge/decline each component of your award offer. Aid of any type cannot be credited to your student account until you take this action.
Student Account Balance Problem for Spring Semester
Your financial aid application is incomplete if you have unpaid charges from a prior term. Your award could be less if your balance is paid late. Check your account balance on the Student Account Inquiry tab. Questions should be directed to Student Accounting Services at studenta@bu.edu or 617-353-2264.
Proof of High School Graduation
You must submit documentation that confirms your graduation from high school. Your current financial aid may be cancelled and you will be denied financial aid in the future if this documentation is not promptly received.
School of Public Health Financial Aid Application
The School of Public Health Financial Aid Application is required to determine eligibility for federal and need-based institutional loans and scholarships. Parental data is not required for this application. Please contact osfs-sph@bu.edu with any questions.
Massachusetts No Interest Loan Default
Because our records indicate that you are in default on a Massachusetts No Interest Loan, you should promptly contact the MA Office of Student Financial Assistance at 617-391-6070. If you meet certain conditions you may be eligible for a deferment of your loan payments, which may enable you to bring your loan out of default status.

Institutional Promissory Note
Students who have been awarded an Institutional Loan must complete all paperwork and sign the Promissory Note(s) and/or Disclosures(s). You must provide a Noncustodial PROFILE Pre-Application Worksheet if your biological/adoptive parents are divorced, separated or were never married to each other. Your noncustodial parent must provide their income, asset, and other information on the form. Cost of Attendance Appeal Form
This form allows Student Financial Services (SFS) to review additional educational expenses incurred during your period of enrollment. You must already be receiving financial aid up to your cost of attendance (COA) and your expenses must exceed your predetermined living allowance for the academic year. All expenses listed on the form must be supported by proper documentation. SFS provides limited increases of the COA in compliance with federal regulations.
