Costs for the spring 2025 semester in Boston
Boston University bills you for direct costs such as tuition, fees, housing, and food. There are also certain indirect expenses, such as transportation, books, supplies and personal expenses that you pay out of pocket.
All students studying on the BU campus enrolled in at least 75 percent of the full-time curriculum are required by Massachusetts law to have medical insurance. If you are not already covered under a qualifying medical insurance plan, you are required to purchase insurance through the University.

Costs for the summer 2025 semester
Boston University bills you for direct costs such as the tuition and the housing/student services fee. Tuition covers a full-time credit load which during the summer semester is typically 14 academic credits. Students pay out of pocket for certain indirect expenses, such as food expenses while in London, books, supplies.

BU Charges and Payment
BU bills you for spring term charges in early December. Payment is due prior to the start of the spring term.
BU bills you for summer term charges in April 2025. Payment is due before the start of the summer term.

Budget Payments Monthly
The monthly payment plan is available for the spring term. Students enroll in September and payments are made from October – February.
Request information about the summer monthly payment plan from Student Accounting Services in February. Payments begin in March and end in May.
Credit-Based Loans
Private and government backed credit-based loans are available. Parents applying for Federal PLUS loans must submit separate spring and summer PLUS Loan Request forms. Applicants for private credit-based loans submit one application for each term: spring and summer.

Student Loans
To apply for a Federal Direct SubsidizedA Subsidized Federal Direct Student Loan is made on the basis of the borrower’s financial need (FAFSA) and other specific eligibility requirements.
