Melrose Fire Fighters Annual 5K – 6.16.19

The Melrose Fire Department will be hosting their annual 5K at 9:30 am on Sunday, June 16. A portion of this year’s proceeds will go to the Melrose Fire Department Boston University EMS Scholarship Fund. This will allow a Melrose, MA graduating senior to attend Boston University’s Emergency Medical Technician Program.

Registration is $30 per person in advance and $35 on race day. The first 300 to register will receive a free t-shirt. Participants can walk, run, push a stroller, or just participate by registering for a chance to enter the raffle. Everyone who registers for the race will automatically be entered to win. This year’s prizes include tickets to the Red Sox, gift certificates to various restaurants in Melrose, tickets to see Zac Brown Band at Fenway, and Mt. Hood Golf passes – just to name a few.

This is truly a fun event that the entire family can enjoy – not just for Dads on Father’s Day. This year, there will be kid’s activities for all ages – which includes a Firefighter Zone obstacle course, touch-a-fire truck (with an antique fire truck). The Massachusetts State Police will also conduct a fly over prior to the start of the race (weather pending).

There is also a “biggest team” contest. The winning team will receive the coveted fire hose flag. Made of retired fire hose that’s has expired or been burned through from use at fire scenes.

“The members of the Melrose Fire Department are proud to once again bring the Father’s Day 5K to start off the summer. We are even more excited to be able to offer such an amazing scholarship from such a renowned program to a deserving Melrose Senior. Hopefully one day they will become a member of the department,” says Chief of Department Edward Collina.
