Aurora Borealis: A Festival of Light and Dance – 12.8 & 12.9.19

 

The Boston University College of Fine Arts School of Theatre, in collaboration with the Department of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, presents the 18th annual Aurora Borealis: A Festival of Light and Dance. Aurora Borealis is a vibrant exploration of the relationship between light and form with a focus on collaboration and experimentation, featuring dance and movement pieces by faculty and students. The production will be held at the Boston University Dance Theater. New this year, there will be two different programs, each one hour in length. There will be open dress rehearsals on Sunday, December 8, 4 pm, Program B, and 6:30 pm, Program A, and two performances on Monday, December 9 at 7 pm, Program A, and 9 pm, Program B. The performances are free and open to the public. Yo-EL Cassell and Micki Taylor-Pinney are the artistic co-directors with lighting designed by Danielle Elegy and Zach Sager, students in the School of Theatre Lighting Design Program. Technical Director is Lynda Rieman.

This year’s concerts will include:

  • A collaboration facilitated by choreographer Yo-EL Cassell, and students from the College of Fine Arts School of Theatre (CFA SOT). The piece evolved from Light and Movement, a course taught by Cassell. Program A & B
  • A lively medley of pieces was created by Dance Faculty instructor, Jossie Coleman, for her Hip Hop and Cardio Jazz Funk classes. Program A
  • Works choreographed by Aerial Dance Silks Repertory class instructor, Marin Orlosky Randow, in collaboration with her students/performers. Program A
  • A collection of works from the Aerial Apparatus Choreography class taught by Lynda Rieman. Program B
  • Directed Study projects in composition and direction by CFA acting students and dance minors under the direction of Yo-EL Cassell and Micki Taylor-Pinney, respectively. Program A & B
