A lot of students don’t know what to expect when they sign up for the Pole Dance Circuit non-credit class at Boston University, but they almost always end up leaving the first class with a smile on their face. Pole at BU is taught by Liz Roncka, Jasmin Joseph-Chazan, and Sasha Pronko, who create a safe, fun, and comfortable atmosphere for their students. The class begins with a dynamic warm-up and stretching, then the pole work begins. This includes reviewing and learning moves, and once everyone becomes comfortable on the pole, a combo choreographed to music.
There are a wide range of benefits to pole dance. Pole as a form of exercise is a great way to strengthen your upper body, core, and legs. It can also help improve flexibility, cardiovascular health, balance, and coordination. Pole dance can also help to build confidence and combos are an excellent outlet for self-expression. At BU, pole classes become a supportive community for students to try something new, cheer on their peers, and de-stress after their day.
Fun Fact: Pole dancers need to have their skin exposed to stick to the pole. It’s unsafe to have fabric or have lotion on your skin in certain areas where high friction is necessary!
Pole Dance Circuit and the rest of our non-credit classes start Monday, September 18. Sign up for a class here!
