Fall 2024 Changes to Physical Education (PDP) Program Offerings
The mission of Boston University’s Physical Education (PDP) program is to positively impact the health, wellbeing, and quality of life of our community of learners. The Department of Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (PERD) offers inclusive instructional and recreational programs that promote lifelong wellness, skill development, physical activity, and fitness in a supportive and nurturing environment. These programs help students build self-awareness, knowledge, and proficiency, and offer students the opportunity to pursue the exploration and development of physical, cultural, and social practices.
Beginning in Fall 2024, in order to better meet the needs of the Boston University student population and align with current academic standards for credit-bearing programs, the PDP program will move off of the current academic system and onto the existing PERD registration system.
Our existing PDP programming will be divided into two formats: progressive courses and those designed for drop-in. Through the expanded options, we hope to serve more unique students than in past semesters. Classes will no longer be offered for credit, nor will any student fees be charged, other than for course materials. Additionally, currently centralized functions such as registration, quality assessment, and scheduling will be overseen by PERD. The dance minor continues with our collaboration with the College of Fine Arts. Though this process will continue to evolve past the first semester or year, our goal remains the same: to serve the BU community through our best-in-class wellness programs.
More information, including registration details, will be shared this spring, including on the MyBU Student Portal.
