James Sundquist is a Former Global China Pre-doctoral Research Fellow at Boston University Global Development Policy Center from 2020-2022. He is currently a postdoctoral associate and Lecturer at the Jackson School of Global Affairs at Yale University. His research focuses on China’s relations with the developing world, particularly the politics of sovereign borrowing and perceptions of China as expressed in elite print media. His book project, Imagined Foreign Communities, examines depictions of China around the world and the domestic, Chinese, and Western forces that shape them. Previously, he worked as the first foreign faculty member of Changzhou Cuizhu Middle School in Jiangsu, China. James holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Yale University and a B.A. in International Relations and Economics from Boston University.
