Dr. María Cristina Vallejo is a Professor of Ecological Economics and Microeconomics at the Department of Development, Environment and Territory at the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences, FLACSO Ecuador. She holds a masters degree in Economics, with specialization in Ecological Economics at FLACSO Ecuador. Dr. Vallejo completed her PhD in Development Economics at FLACSO Ecuador in 2010. As a PhD candidate she was a visiting researcher at the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA) of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, as part of a Carolina Foundation Fellowship. Her research interests are related to ecological economics, with a focus on biophysical accounting, social metabolism and multicriterial analysis as tools to understand social, economic and biophysical causes of environmental degradation in the Latin American countries. Dr. Vallejo has published about 15 scientific articles and book chapters, being one of the authors of “Commercial and biophysical deficits in South America, 1990–2013”, published in 2017 in Ecological Economics.
