Thomas Byrne is an Affiliate Faculty Member of the Boston University Global Development Policy Center and an Associate Professor at the Boston University School of Social Work. His research focuses broadly on the causes, consequences and policy solutions to housing insecurity and homelessness. His work primarily uses quantitative methods to address policy-relevant research questions on these topics, and he has a particular expertise in the use of administrative data to conduct applied social research. His worked has been published in journals that span a number of fields, including The American Journal of Public Health, Health Affairs, Housing Policy Debate, Social Service Review and the Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science. He holds a BA in Economics from Boston College and an MSW and PhD in Social Welfare from the University of Pennsylvania.
