The Boston Geneva Program residence is is centrally located and accommodates students in a dormitory-style set-up. Participants of the program will normally be placed in doubles or triples and will share bathrooms (2-3 persons/bathroom).  Bedding is provided.

There are also communal kitchens on each floor. Each student will be asked to participate to a cleaning rota to maintain the kitchen in good sanitary conditions. Basic cooking utensils, detergents and cleaning materials are provided. There are three washing machines and three dryers in the basement.

The lower level of the building has a laundry room and common room.  The common room has a large flat screen TV, some books and foosball. There is also a courtyard with tables and chairs which is open during the day.  The common room and courtyard must be left clean and tidy after you use them.

There is WIFI in the building and a shared printer.  Students must bring their own computer.   There is no gym in the residence or a specified area for working out.  There are two good private gyms close by or can enrol to use the UNIGE gym if you have a student card.

Smoking is prohibited in the residence.  This includes the rear courtyard, the sidewalk in front of the building and the bedroom balconies.  

Rules and behavior

The housing rules are similar to those you would have in a university dorm and are designed to make life pleasant for everyone. The basic principle is to be respectful and considerate at all times.  Rowdy, noisy or uncouth behaviour of any kind will not be tolerated by program staff, or the local residents, and will be subject to disciplinary actions ranging from fines to expulsion from housing or from the program.  The quiet hours in the residence are from 10pm to 6am.  A housing contract will be given to you with more details and you can see a example list of the fines and sanctions below:

Absence

For all overnight absences (travel, work related, etc.) please notify us by submitting an absence notification prior to departure. No authorisation is necessary for leisure travel, but for safety and security reasons we must know if you will be away from the residence. It is your responsibility to ensure that your absence does not interfere with academic or internship commitments. If you have been requested to travel for your internship you MUST clear your absence beforehand with the Program Director.

Visitors

Due to the current sanitary situation you are not allowed to bring visitors into the residence at any time.  Only emergency responders and individuals on official business have access to the residence.

Maintenance

If you have a problem and something requires fixing fill out the ROOM-MAINTENANCE-FORM- V2and bring it to the office.

To receive mail and parcels:

You can give the residence address for receiving mail and parcels.  Please make sure your name and the full international address is on the delivery.  Please note that new purchases from outside of Switzerland maybe subject to customs fees, and you are responsible for paying them. If you are sent personal items from abroad which are not new, make sure the sender stipulates they are used or second hand.  Otherwise the shippers may charge you a customs fee.  Couriers normally deliver to the door and there should be a member of staff to receive deliveries.  For the Post Office deliveries, you may have to go in person to pick up the parcel.

BU Staff in the residence

There are offices located on the ground floor of the residence where there are program staff working during normal office hours.  We have resident assistants living in the building and one of these is present in the building or in close proximity if assistance is required during the evenings and weekends.
