On Thursday night most stores are open a bit later, until 9pm. Some bakeries are open on Sunday morning and bank holidays. There are supermarkets which stay open to later in train stations and airports, for example Cornavin train station or Geneva Airport. Small independent stores called are to be found everywhere and usually open later during the week and also on Sunday if you just need a couple of items.
Supermarkets in Geneva:

For late shopping there is the Migros supermarket at Cornavin train station – open until 11pm . https://filialen.migros.ch/de/migros-supermarkt-geneve-cornavin-gare
Important cultural differences: you have to weigh your vegetables and fruits before going to the cashier. Most shops do not offer bags anymore, you must have your own shopping bag (some in the residence or you can buy one there).
Shopping in France
A lot of Swiss people go across the border to shop and savings can be made on certain categories. There are limitations on how much you can bring back across the border when you shop in France. You must buy a connecting ticket if you cross the border to shop and should allow about 30 minutes for your journey door to door.
Travel and purchases, allowances and duty-free limit
The closest French supermarket is Casino. You can take the 17 Annemasse tram to the Gaillard Millet stop. Or, if you take the train from Eaux Vives to Annemasse there is the Leclerc hypermarket just a short walk from the train station. See map.
