Partners In Health is a non-profit corporation based in Boston, Massachusetts, whose mission is to provide a preferential option for the poor in health care. Through service delivery, training, research, and advocacy, PIH works globally to bring the benefits of modern science to those most in need. PIH currently has programs in Boston, Haiti, Peru, Russia, Rwanda, Lesotho, Guatemala, and Mexico.
Position Description:
PIH Mexico seeks a volunteer who can commit ~10 hours/week for 6 months, with a desired start date of April 2015. The Curriculum Writer will assist the Mexico Chief Strategist to refine and document PIH Mexico’s innovative global health curriculum for recent medical graduates.
The global health curriculum, comprising 18 modules, is based on adult learning best practices and is unique in Mexico. It has been piloted and developed over two years. The volunteer will create lesson plans and tools for the curriculum to be shared. This role will be substantive for candidates interested in global health program development and training.
Overall Responsibilities:
This volunteer will:
- Discuss curriculum goals and core concepts in depth with Strategist, documenting key ideas
- Write original lesson plan drafts for any modules that have not been formally documented, based on conversation with the Strategist and past feedback
- Link the lesson plans with visuals, case studies, and other tools in a simple, user-friendly format
- Utilize a standardized lesson template to refine layout and style
- Develop, review and edit curricula and other training documents in preparation for publication and dissemination (including assessing materials for training flow, formatting, consistency, branding and clarity)
Qualifications:
- A degree in education, health education, public health or a related field.
- Experience in designing, developing, and editing training/educational materials for adults.
- Able to commit ~10 hours/week for 6 months.
- Strong writing skills and ability to present complex information in a clear and compelling way.
- Experience with literature reviews, synthesis of academic articles.
