Teacher Expectations

Expectations for GK12 Teacher Participants

  • Partner with a GK12 fellow for a minimum of 10 hours each week and share your teaching experience in a mentoring relationship;
  • Collaborate with GK12 fellow on ways to integrate new global change content/activities into your curriculum;
  • Attend a two-week summer session from August 1-4 and August 8-11, 2016 (9:30 AM – 3:30 PM) and work with your fellow partner to determine goals and objectives, develop a plan to integrate the fellow into your classroom, write a contract specifying the times you will work with the fellow and the protocol for maintaining communication, and begin designing appropriate curriculum activities;
  • Spend a minimum of one hour each week with the GK12 fellow discussing lesson plans for upcoming classes and/or developing classroom enrichment activities (this can be accomplished in person, on the phone, or by email);
  • Attend one late afternoon meeting per semester with the GK12 project management team (PMT) at Boston University and one full day meeting mid-year which will require that you are granted a release day.
  • Permit your assigned BU faculty advisor to visit your classroom 2-3 times each semester for observation and assessment of the fellow’s classroom participation;
  • Meet with your assigned BU faculty advisor twice per semester (could be separate from or in concert with scheduled classroom visits) to provide feedback;
  • Submit a weekly online report about the GK12 experience;
  • Complete periodic questionnaires and evaluations requested by both NSF and PMT.
